Then ...
In 1981, Swedish-German Industrial Photographer Werner Schafer, working in Australia, had the vision to translate his photos into enormous scale in order to better convey their message and emotion.
Werner begins to study printing methods on fabric. Unlike traditional paper printing, he knows that translating vibrant images to fabric is the key since fabric can stand up far better than paper and be used again and again.
Upon his return from Australia, Werner becomes a sales rep for one of the only large printers located in Liverpool. Its then that Werner realizes that this printing technology could be used in the world of entertainment and the arts, but the quality wasn't there yet.
In 1987 Werner purchases the first (and only!) large format airbrush printer from the US and sets up shop in an old Seaplane hanger outside of Stockholm. Big Image Systems is born.
The machine, however, turns out to be enormously complicated and try as he might Werner cannot get the machine to function to match his vision.
Undeterred, he decides to invest his life savings to fund his ultimate vision. Working with engineering students at Sweden's Royal Institute of Technology, Werner spends the next two years creating his vision, INFINITUS.
The rest, they say, is history ...
